Acts Week 9

Acts 19:1-12 (NIV)

Welcome to Nambucca Baptist Church for our morning service and communion this Sunday 6th June 2021. We enjoyed another beautiful and sunny morning but it was quite cold until the sun warmed things up a little and inside the church, we had a great service. I have laid out this page in the same order that we enjoyed it and you are welcome to join our church family as we worship and celebrate Holy Communion with us after the message.

Today we are in week 9 of our series on Acts and our bible passage covers the arrival of Paul in Ephesus, and I spent a bit of time explaining the significance of this city to the spread of the gospel during Paul’s ministry and a couple of the strange incidents that Paul encountered. Firstly Paul met with a group of believers who had only been baptised with John’s baptism of repentance. Apparently, their former teacher Apollos was not aware of this need however this was later rectified when Priscilla and Aquila met with Apollos in Corinth and corrected his teaching. In the same way, we all have gaps in our understanding and it is good from time to time for others to come in and help us where we are lacking. Of course, Paul did the same thing for the men in Ephesus and they were quickly baptised into Jesus Christ and then filled with the Holy Spirit.

This is where we would normally take up a collection but as you can see we can’t pass an offering bag around online. We have, however, provided a secure online giving facility for you. You can either use the Tithe.ly app on your smartphone or just click on the green button on the screen. We have been blessed by the way so many of you have managed to continue to give in various ways so that we can continue with the work of the Lord here in our church and beyond our walls.

The Red Part of the map is the Roman province of Asia what we would describe as western Turkey. The White area is the entire Roman Empire.
This is a recreation of the temple of Artemis in Ephesus one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. It is roughly 10 times the size of the Parthenon in Athens.
This map shows the ring road system around Ephesus enabling rapid travel throughout the province of Asia. These churches established by Paul are the seven churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation.
